The government has planned to reduce country’s population growth rate from 2.3 percent to 2 percent.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jahid Malek made the disclosure while addressing a press briefing at secretariat in the capital on Tuesday noon.
He said that the increase of population is needed but not more than two percent.
The population growth rate is higher in Dhaka and Chittagong comparably than other six divisions.
Total population of the country is now about 16 crore, he added.
The World Population Day is observed on July 11 but the government will observe the day on July 21 officially. The decision was taken due to Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.
State Minister said that workers and institution will be awarded in seven categories as usual. Besides, seven persons also will be given Media Award 2016.
