Adhikar is a Bangladesh-based human rights organization founded in October 1994. It is a member of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH). It has been publishing an annual activity report since 2003. The rights act was cited by Human Rights Watch in their 2011 World Report on Bangladesh. The aim of establishing rights was to monitor human rights violations and abuses in Bangladesh.
On November 11, 2018, Janakantha newspaper published an article written by Bivas Baroi calling Adhikari reprehensible. In November 2018, the Election Commission of Bangladesh revoked Adhikar’s right to be an election observer.
2013 Shapla Square protest
On 10 June 2013, Adhikar released a fact-finding report claiming 61 people were killed in the 2013 operation at Motijheel Shapla Chattar, but declined to name any of the casualty reports, citing safety concerns for victims’ families.
