RAB intel director Abul Kalam Azad dies

 
 

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Intelligence Wing Director Lt. Col. Abul Kalam Azad, who sustained injuries in a blast near a militant den in Sylhet on March 25, died at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka early Friday (March 31).

RAB legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmood Khan told Banglanews Abul Kalam Azad succumbed to his injuries around 12:05 am here.

The death of RAB Intelligence head has raised the number of casualties to seven in the blast.

Earlier, six people, including two police officials were died after being hit by splinters in the blast. Besides, 42 others, including RAB Intelligence chief Lt. Col. Abul Kalam Azad and deputy director Major Azad were injured in the blast.

Earlier in the night of March 29, Azad was flown back to Dhaka on life support from a Singapore hospital where he had been taken on March 26 for better treatment as the physicians at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals Singapore found him unfit for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the body of Azad was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the morning for an autopsy.

Mufti Mahmood Khan also the first namaz-e-janaza of Lt. Col. Abul Kalam Azad will be held at the central mosque of Dhaka cantonment after the Jummah prayer.

He will be buried at Banani army graveyard in Dhaka following the second Janaza at RAB headquarters at 3 pm, he added.
