PM declared Sundarbans bandit-free

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday declared the ‘Sundarbans’ a pirate-free zone.

The Prime Minister came up with the declaration in the wake of surrendering last six pirate gangs of the world’s largest mangrove forest who once made the lives of people here miserable.

In continuation of different gangs’ surrender with a hope to lead a normal life, six pirate gangs laid down their arms at a programme arranged at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium in Bagerhat this morning.

Joining the programme from Gono Bhaban through videoconferencing, the PM said,”Once people living in the Sundarbans were frightened by pirates. But, many bandits surrendered with the initiatives of Rapid Action Battalion. So, today I declare Sundarbans free from pirates.”

The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating 321 development projects and laying some foundation stones through videoconferencing at her official Gono Bhaban residence.

She also thanked law enforcement agencies and all concerned for their contribution to free the Sundarbans as pirate free. -observerbd.com
