Nadiya wins Great British Bake Off

Nadiya Hussain, a mother of three from Leeds, ended up baking a real showstopper on Wednesday’s final of the ‘Great British Bake Off’. Prime Minister David Cameron will not be disappointed for putting his money on this Bangladesh origin woman. It was adorned with jewels from her marriage and she romped home winner in Britain’s most popular food show watched by more than 12 million people on BBC One.

Challenger Ian Cumming forgot to add sugar to the dough of his spiced buns and another competitor Tamal Ray struggled with his toffee and marmalade iced buns within the fixed time, the BBC One said. Thirty-year old Nadiya has become the sixth winner in the show’s history. Nadiya says she did not have a wedding cake because she got married in Bangladesh, but in the scintillating final of the ‘Great British Bake Off’, she chose to bake her husband’s favourite – lemon drizzle. Her stand was decorated in red, white and blue saree material.

“I went into the tent the shortest competitor at 4 feet 10 inches but came out feeling real tall,” said Nadia after her victory.

“At the end of the filming I took the cake out to my family’s table and we all had a slice. So my husband and I did get our wedding cake after all,” she said.

Nadiya emerged as the winner despite coming last in the technical challenge in the very first episode. She said her family life would now “carry on as normal”.

Being a mother of three small children all under ten is time consuming but Nadiya says she wanted her own adventure and had a very supportive husband. “I am really looking forward to see what will happen.”

PM David Cameron, passionate about the Bake Off show, had betted on Nadiya, saying she was ”very calm under pressure”. After ten weeks involving twelve rounds, Nadiya remained in the fray with Ian Cumming and Tamal Ray of Indian origin. In the end, she won easily as Cumming forgot to add sugar and Ray struggled to finish on time, according to bdnews24.com.
