Final moment’s of Nizami
The formalities before the execution of war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami were well underway inside around 7:00pm when the Dhaka Central Jail area was teeming with journalists, locals, and policemen.
A total of 26 family members, including his wife, daughters and sons went inside the jail at 7:50pm.
They met him and Nizami got to know that he was to be executed that very day. He had his final moments with his family.
The family members left at 9:30pm.
The death-row inmate then had his shower and offered his Esha prayers after which a team of doctors checked his health.
Dhaka Central Jail Mosque Imam Moulana Monir Hossain administered Nizami’s tawba (pardon).
Five hangmen, led by Raju, who was brought from the Kashimpur high security jail, were all set by then.
One of them handcuffed Nizami and put a noose around his neck at the condemned cell, said prison sources.
Around 11:55pm, Nizami was taken to the gallows.
Raju was waiting there for the jail superintendent’s signal to pull the lever.
The handkerchief dropped and “the execution was carried out at 12:10am”, said Senior Jail Superintendent Jahangir Kabir.
After he was pronounced dead, his body was taken out of the jail at 1:24am.
